DIVISION OF ASSAY DEVELOPMENT
|
The Assay Development Division focus on 3 main themes
1) Elucidating pathways and mechanisms
2) Development of cell-based assays
3) Development of whole –organisms based assays
|
1. Mechanisms and pathways
Using zebrafish as model organism, several projects are being carried out to elucidate developmental pathways and mechanisms. The projects are funded by various grant schemes awarded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and Universiti Sains Malaysia. At present, projects to understand pathways related to unsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis, neuromast hair cell development and addiction are being carried out.

Another on going project is to exploit the potential of zebrafish embryonic stem cells in understanding roles of small molecules in governing pluripotency and differentiation pathways. At present, we are focusing on deriving established embryonic stem cell line from zebrafish blastomeres. Project is in collaboration with Prof Chan Woon-Khiong, National University of Singapore.
